About Los Olivos Mijas Golf Course
The original layout of Los Olivos was, like its sister course Los Lagos, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. However, the second 18 hole course at the Mijas complex did not open until 1984 eight years after Los Lagos. Cabell Robinson completely refurbished Los Olivos golf course in 2001 following the original design concept of Trent Jones Sr.

Los Olivos, although shorter than Los Lagos, is considered by many to be more challenging. With its tighter fairways and smaller greens the emphasis is certainly on accuracy when playing this par 70 golf course. The first hole is testament to this, because even this short stroke index 17 par 4 will probably see you playing an iron off the tee for accuracy. This gentle start to your round is followed by the most difficult hole at Los Olivos which measures 397 metres off the back tee. At stroke index 1 this par 4 is further complicated by a 3 tier green which will test your putting skills if your approach shot lands on the wrong tier. The front nine is completed with a 489 metre dog leg par 5, if you can’t reach the green in two make sure you lay up short of the cross bunkers guarding the approach. You have to wait until the 16th hole for the easiest hole on Los Olivos, however beware, you really need to leave an uphill putt to have a good opportunity of a par. The back nine, like the front nine, finishes with a par 5. While the 18th is over 50m shorter than the ninth it is only maginally easier and you will be more than happy to complete your round at Los Olivos with a par.
