Ballybunion golf course, located in County Kerry on Ireland’s west coast, dates back to 1893. The Old Course was the first to be developed with the eighteen hole Cashen course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., added in 1980.

A 403 yard par 4 opens your round on Ballybunion’s Old Course, played from a slightly elevated tee the golf hole dog legs to the left. From the back tee you will face a carry of 229 yards to reach the fairway, but there is little in the way of trouble on this opener. Your first glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean comes at the Old Course’s 7th hole and stays with you on the right hand side for most of this hole. You will finish your round with a 379 yard par 4. A large bunker in the middle of this fairway is strategically placed to gather up your drive – so caution and possibly an iron off the tee is a sensible play.

Moving over to the Cashen course you will find a 522 yard par 5 awaiting your opening tee shot. There are several bunkers placed within driving distance on this first and if you manage to find one of them you will struggle to make par. The Atlantic Ocean plays its part at holes 7, 11, 16 and 17 before you move to the relatively short par 4 18th.
